Alexander Chance
Alexander Chance studied classics at New College, Oxford and graduated in 2015. He was a choral scholar in the Choir of New College, Oxford under the direction of Edward Higginbottom for three years and then under Robert Quinney for one year. He had many opportunities for solo performances, most notably in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where he sang the alto arias in Bach’s St John Passion. He also made numerous recordings with the Choir of New College, including a CD of John Blow’s symphony anthems, on which he features as a soloist.
Recent appearances include Handel’s The Triumph of Time and Truth and Bach’s Magnificat under Edward Higginbottom at King’s Place in London, Purcell’s King Arthur and Micah in Handel’s Samson at Stour Music, Handel’s Messiah with Richard Cooke at Canterbury Cathedral, Bach’s St John Passion with Mark Deller at St Mary’s, Ashford, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Robert Quinney at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Geraint Bowen at Hereford Cathedral and Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, as well as regular performances with Tom Hammond-Davies and the Oxford Bach Soloists. Further projects include a recording with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra in February 2019.
