The 106th Salzburg Festival can look back on an exceptionally successful summer: 172 performances over 45 days, complemented by 37 ‘jung & jede*r’ performances, more than 261,300 guests from 84 countries and an attendance rate of over 99%. Opera, drama and concerts combined the classical repertoire with modern works, world premieres and rediscoveries.

Alongside nine opera productions, 84 concerts and a diverse theatre programme, the youth programme also made a significant impact. A new addition in 2026 was the archive festival ‘Staging Realities – The Living Archive’, which, for the first time, presented new ways of engaging with the Festival’s cultural heritage.

The Executive Board considers the festival to have been an overwhelming success: the audience enthusiastically embraced the diverse programme of classical repertoire, modern works and world premieres, and celebrated the artists with standing ovations after almost every performance.

A summer full of great culture, international encounters and shared experiences – and a powerful testament to the significance of the Salzburg Festival far beyond the city of Salzburg itself.
