Natalia Gavrilan comes from Moldova and studied at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău. From 1999 to 2001 she was a member of the Accademia of La Scala, Milan, where she appeared in roles including Musetta (La bohème), Giulietta di Kelbar (Un giorno di regno), Mirandolina in Cimarosa’s Chi dell’altrui si veste presto si spoglia, Laura (Iolanta), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) and Dorabella (Così fan tutte). She has also sung the role of Rosina at the Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan, in Reggio Emilia and at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon.
Other engagements have included Zaida (Il turco in Italia) at the Teatro Politeama Greco in Lecce, Rosalia (L’equivoco stravagante) and Ragonde (Le Comte Ory) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Irene in Donizetti’s Belisario in Istanbul, Volpino in Haydn’s Lo speziale with the Orchestra Cantelli in Milan, Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Bari and Elicia in Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto in Pisa and Novara.
On the concert platform Natalia Gavrilan has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Stefano Ranzani and Daniele Callegari.
Her recent performances have included Page (Salome) and Fortune-Teller in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Arrigo Boito’s Nerone at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, and Countess di Coigny (Andrea Chénier) and Lady-in-Waiting to Lady Macbeth in the French version of Macbeth under Roberto Abbado at the Teatro Regio in Parma.
