Flautist Júlia Gállego was born in Altea in Spain and studied the flute with Alain Marion, Raymond Guiot, Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas, as well as chamber music with Maurice Bourgue and Pierre-Laurent Aimard at the Paris Conservatoire.
She won first prize and the audience prize at the ARD Competition with the Miró Ensemble in 2001 and first prize at the Montserrat Alavedra Chamber Music competition with the Haizea Wind Quintet in 1994.
As a chamber musician, Júlia Gállego works with various leading musicians including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Gordan Nikolić, Reto Bieri, David Quiggle, Meesun Hong Coleman, Thomas Kaufmann, Joonas Ahonen and Alba Ventura, as well as groups such as W Ensemble and ensemble 0.
Júlia Gállego was a member of the Spanish Youth Orchestra from 1992 to 1996 and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester from 1997 to 2001. Following positions with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, she became a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in 2005, as well as being a co-founder and flautist with bandArt and Gordan Nikolić. She also works regularly with the Camerata Bern, Les Dissonances, musicAeterna and the Orquestra de Cadaqués.
Since 2006 she has taught at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona, where she lives with her husband and their two children.
