Francesco Pittari

Tenor Francesco Pittari studied the violin and composition before completing his vocal training at the Salerno Conservatory. He made his professional debut in Verdi’s Macbeth in Salerno in 2006 and since then has been invited to appear at leading opera houses and festivals all over the world, including the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Israeli Opera, the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, the Royal Opera in Muscat, the Guangzhou Opera and the Seoul Arts Center.

Francesco Pittari is chiefly associated with character roles such as Beppe/Arlecchino (Pagliacci), Goro (Madama Butterfly), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), An Incroyable (Andrea Chénier), Pong (Turandot) and Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor). Thanks to his finely detailed interpretations of these and other roles, he has been invited to work with many leading conductors, including Daniel Oren, Nello Santi, Michail Jurowski, Stefano Ranzani, Bruno Aprea, Marco Armiliato and Pier Giorgio Morandi as well as with directors such as Gianfranco De Bosio, Andreas Homoki, Francesca Zambello, Mario Pontiggia, Gilbert Deflo, Massimo Ranieri, Beppe De Tommasi and Damiano Michieletto.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include Adriana Lecouvreur in Palermo, Turandot and Il trovatore in Salerno, La traviata in Salerno and Naples, Otello at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Norma on tour with the Opéra de Rouen, Pagliacci with the Rome Opera in Muscat, Il pirata, Attila and Aida at La Scala, Falstaff with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Lakmé in Muscat, I masnadieri at La Scala and in Savonlinna, Tosca and Pagliacci in Naples, Carmen, Aida, La traviata, Tosca and Turandot at the Arena di Verona, Les Vêpres siciliennes and Turandot in Rome, Otello in Florence and Falstaff in Lyon.
