David Fischer

David Fischer has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2019/20 season, and in February 2024 made his role debut there as Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. His other roles at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein include Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Alfred in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Steersman in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Beppe in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth, Tybalt in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Harlekin in Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Third Jew in Richard Strauss’s Salome. In 2023 he appeared as Piquillo in Offenbach’s La Périchole at the Theater an der Wien. David Fischer has sung Tamino as a guest artist at the 2022 Salzburg Festival, and at the Semperoper Dresden and for Leipzig Opera.

In concert David Fischer has performed Haydn’s Nelson Mass under Adam Fischer at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at the Dresden Kreuzkirche during the 2023/24 season. He has sung works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Mozart’s Mass in C minor at venues including the Philharmonie de Paris and the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Madrid and Barcelona and at the Salzburg Festival.

He has worked with leading conductors such as Howard Arman, Sylvain Cambreling, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Axel Kober, Joana Mallwitz, Andrew Manze and Jordan de Souza, and toured Asia and Europe with orchestras including the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the B’Rock Orchestra, appearing at venues including the Berlin Philharmonie, Müpa Budapest, the National Forum for Musik in Breslau and St Michaelis in Hamburg. He toured Germany in Felix Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht under the direction of Frieder Bernius, with whom he later recorded the work for Carus.

He has a longstanding working partnership with his Finnish song accompanist Pauliina Tukiainen, with whom he has performed at the Swiss Festival Classique des Haudères in Geneva, at the Bonn Schumannfest and at the Schaffhausen Master Concerts.
