Danielle Domingue Sumi

Danielle Domingue Sumi comes from New Orleans and is a Los Angeles-based apparel artist and art psychotherapist. Her artistic expression is inspired by spirituality and humility with elements of multi-cultural diversity and social justice. She is committed to promoting social well-being through expressive arts, including increased understanding, recognition and response to multi-ethnic heritage. Danielle Domingue Sumi is treasured for her creativity and leadership skills in theatrical costume production. Since 2005, she has worked on the staff and independently with fashion, theatre, music and opera companies including FIDM, Los Angeles Opera, Kirk Douglas Theater, Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Perm Opera and Ballet Company, the Teatro Real in Madrid, English National Opera, Music Academy of the West, East West Players and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Danielle Domingue Sumi has worked with directors such as Ned Canty, Fenlon Lamb, Summer L. Williams, Yuval Sharon and Alison De La Cruz as well as designers Azzedine Alaïa, Hussein Chalayan, Dunya Ramicova and Helene Siebrits.

She relishes collaborating with Peter Sellars, including designing Lagrime di San Pietro with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and bringing life to other projects including Desdemona at CAP UCLA and The Indian Queen and The Gospel According to the Other Mary on tour with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She worked recently as resident costume designer with Nobles Theatre Collective and is currently costume director with New Orleans Opera.
