Anna-Maria Palii

Munich-based soprano Anna-Maria Palii began with piano, violin and singing lessons at an early age. She studied pedagogy, psychology and music education in Bamberg, before studying in Elena Pankratova’s singing class at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Graz. She graduated with honours in 2018 and is currently continuing her education at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Munich with Christiane Iven. She has been inspired by her associations with Julie Kaufmann and Edith Wiens and has attended masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Thomas Quasthoff, Jan Philip Schulze, Robert Holl, Joshua Rifkin, Brigitte Fassbaender, Hedwig Fassbender, James Baillieu and Caroline Dowdle.

She has appeared in roles such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Lucy (The Telephone) and Flora (The Turn of the Screw) at MUMUTH in Graz, as well as appearing as the Fifth Maid (Elektra) at the Verbier Festival and Ännchen (Der Freischütz) for the Ring Award in Graz.

Her concert repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the present day and she has appeared at the Handel Festival in Halle, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the MelosLogos Festival in Weimar, the styriarte and impuls Festivals in Graz, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna and the Musiikkitalo – The Helsinki Music Centre.

She has worked with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Köln, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Munich Radio Orchestra, as well as with conductors such as Peter Dijkstra, Bernhard Steiner, Yuval Weinberg, Wolfgang Wengenroth, Johannes Prinz, Howard Arman, Matthias Pintscher, Emilio Pomàrico and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Anna-Maria Palii is a Britten-Pears Young Artist and a fellow of the Rotary Club, the Irmler Foundation of the University of Bamberg, the Bavarian Singing Academy, the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition in Helsinki and the Verbier Festival Academy. She has twice received scholarships from the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Graz.

She became a soprano with the Bavarian Radio Choir in 2016.
