Anna Lucia Richter

Anna Lucia Richter was nine when she started singing lessons with her mother Regina Dohmen and was a member of the Cologne Cathedral Girls’ Choir. She later studied with Kurt Widmer in Basel and with Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne and also received substantial advice and encouragement from Christoph Prégardien, Edith Wiens and Margreet Honig. She currently works with the voice expert Tamar Rachum, under whose guidance she switched from soprano to mezzo-soprano roles in the spring of 2020.

Following her Salzburg Festival debut as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) Anna Lucia Richter will be making her role debut as Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) under François-Xavier Roth at the Cologne Opera in December 2021.

On the concert platform she has been heard most recently in Mahler’s Wunderhorn Songs under Ádám Fischer in Düsseldorf. Plans for 2021/22 include Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Klaus Mäkelä in Munich, Haydn’s Mass in Time of War with the WDR Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck in Cologne and Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Choir of St Thomas’s in St Thomas’s Church in Leipzig. Central to her repertoire is the music of Bach, which features in Bach privat, a recording she made with Georg Nigl and others.

Anna Lucia Richter has worked frequently with Teodor Currentzis and his musicAeterna, including concert performances of La clemenza di Tito. She has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra under Bernard Haitink, with Il Giardino Armonico under Giovanni Antonini, with the Orchestre de Paris under Thomas Hengelbrock and with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. Among the leading international festivals where she has appeared are the Lucerne Festival, the BBC Proms in London and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She was artist in residence at the Rheingau Music Festival in 2018 and at the Cologne Philharmonie in 2018/19.

As a lieder recitalist, Anna Lucia Richter has performed a wide-ranging repertoire at the Schwarzenberg Schubertiade, the Vilabertran Schubertíada, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, the Park Avenue Armory and Carnegie Hall in New York and London’s Wigmore Hall. Plans for 2021/22 include a song recital with Christian Gerhaher at Schloss Elmau and solo recitals at the Wigmore Hall, in Duisburg and in the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. She will additionally give the world premiere of a new piece by Cristóbal Halffter at concerts with the Schumann Quartet in Bilbao and Madrid.

Her CD Il delirio della passione, featuring music by Monteverdi performed with the Ensemble Claudiana, appeared in the spring of 2021.
