Journalist, critic and dramaturg

The German journalist, critic and dramaturg Till Briegleb has been collaborating with the director Ersan Mondtag since 2018. Their productions together have included Franz Schreker’s Der Schmied von Gent at the Opera Vlaanderen (2019, co-production with the Mannheim National Theatre), Kurt Weill’s Der Silbersee (2021, co-production with the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine), Salome (2024) at the Opera Vlaanderen, Der Freischütz at the Kassel State Theatre, Marschner’s Der Vampyr at the Hanover State Opera, a double bill of Gianni Schicchi and L’Heure espagnole at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and La forza del destino at the Opéra national de Lyon. Most recently, he and Ersan Mondtag developed a production of Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles at the Vienna State Opera.

The world premiere of Sam Max’s theatre piece Double Serpent in Wiesbaden, in which he participated as dramaturg, was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2025. He also co-authored the play Das rote Haus, which opened the 2025/26 season at the Maxim Gorky Theatre in Berlin. In 2026 he oversaw the world premiere of Albert Ostermaier’s Munich Machine at the Residenztheater in Munich.

As a journalist, Till Briegleb has written on theatre, art and architecture for a variety of German newspapers and magazines, including the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the art magazine art and the business magazine brand eins. He has published numerous books, including Die diskrete Scham, released by Insel Verlag, and a comprehensive study of the culture of equestrian statues. He lives in Hamburg.
