Lithuanian soprano Ausrine Stundyte made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2020 as Elektra under Franz Welser-Möst and sang this role again in Salzburg in 2021 as well as at the State Operas in Vienna and Hamburg and in concert under Antonio Pappano in Rome. In 2022 she returned to Salzburg as Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle.

Her plans include a new production of Respighi’s La Fiamma at the Berlin German Opera, The Dead City in Bergen, her first Dyer in The woman without a shadow in Amsterdam and Elektra at the Vienna State Opera.

Important engagements in the recent past include Katja Kabanova in Bergen, Katarina Ismailova in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in Geneva, in Paris under Ingo Metzmacher, in Lyon staged by Dmitry Tcherniakov and conducted by Kazushi Ono and in Antwerp under Dmitri Jurowski and directed by Calixto Bieito, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Schönberg’s Erwartung as well as The Devils of Loudun in Munich, The Devils of Loudun in Munich, Renata in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel in Madrid, at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, in Warsaw, directed by Calixto Bieito and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda in Zurich, in Munich and under Kazushi Ono in Lyon, her role debut as Regan in a new production of Aribert Reimann’s Lear in Munich, the recording of a new production of The Fiery Angel at the Vienna Theater, a new production of The Dead City at the Cologne Opera, Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle in Venice and under the direction of Calixto Bieito at the Komische Oper Berlin, the title role of Salome at the Berlin and Vienna State Operas as well as in Bologna and Dallas, Hindemith’s Sancta Susanna in Baltimore and at the Vienna Concert Hall, Heliane in Korngold’s The Miracle of Heliane at the Bard Summer Ecape as well as in Ghent and Antwerp, José Maria Usandizaga’s Basque folk opera Mendi Mendiyan directed by Calixto Bieito in Bilbao and San Sebastian, Tosca in Helsinki, Seattle and São Paulo, Carlotta in Franz Schreker’s The Branded at the Komische Oper Berlin, Bianca in Zemlinsky’s A Florentine Tragedy in Amsterdam, the title role in Catalani’s Loreley at the St. Galler Festival, Venus in Tannhäuser directed by Calixto Bieito in Venice and Antwerp, Montezuma in Rihm’s The Conquest of Mexico in Cologne in a production by Peter Konwitschny and in Madrid, Leonore in Fidelio in concert in Israel and staged in Florence under Zubin Mehta and at the Vienna Folk Opera, Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele in Munich, Chrysothemis in Elektra in Antwerp, the title role in La Gioconda in St. Gallen and Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly at the opera festivals in Savonlinna and Seattle.

Ausrine Stundyte studied in her home town of Vilnius and in Leipzig and began her career with appearances at the Leipzig Opera and as a member of the Cologne Opera ensemble. In addition to the conductors already mentioned, Ausrine Stundyte has sung under the direction of Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Julia Jones, Julian Kovatchev, Marco Armiliato, Markus Stenz, Gabriel Feltz and others. She has appeared on stage in many productions by Calixto Bieito and has also worked with Robert Carsen, Peter Konwitschny, Graham Vick, David Alden, Christof Nel, Pierre Audi, Tatjana Gürbaca, Dmitri Tcherniakov and Krzysztof Warlikowski.

As a concert singer, she has performed at venues including the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, the Cologne and Essen Philharmony and several concert halls in Tokyo.
