MAIN SPONSOR

Siemens was a Project Sponsor from 1995 to 1998 and has been a Main Sponsor since 1999.

About 60% of our sponsoring budget goes to cultural projects. Our core values of “confidence, responsibility and vision” form the basis of our sponsoring activities. Good cultural sponsoring creates meaning and is sensual at the same time, thereby increasing the employees’ identification with the corporation and making Siemens attractive to prospective employees with high potential.

As part of our sponsoring activities, we aim to develop our own cultural initiatives and thereby to create real cultural support, not just “mere money-giving”. All our activities are connected with personal involvement. Our goal is the development of our own cultural projects, focusing on technology as a transfer medium and on the support of young artists, whose work we try to introduce to a broad public, especially to young people.

The Salzburg Festival, which Siemens has supported since 1995, are a European meeting-place for culture, politics and economy and reflect the cultural diversity of the new Europe; thus, they anticipate the expansion of the European Union, connecting all its people.

Siemens utilizes the image transfer from the best opera festival in the world to give its customers confidence in the quality and durability of its brand.

Since 2002, we have presented the Siemens Festival Nights in cooperation with the Austrian Public Broadcasting Company ORF and the Salzburg Festival. For three weeks every season, Festival productions are shown without admission. About 70% of the about 40,000 visitors viewing the broadcasts are inhabitants of Salzburg, who may have their first opportunity to participate in their city’s Festival, or are young people who might have their first contact with high culture in this way.

EDITORIAL DEVELOPMENT

“Aren’t you afraid that the sponsors will try to influence your program?” is a common question in the arts sections of various newspapers, especially since we have been so successful in acquiring sponsors. And I can always answer both spontaneously and honestly: No, I am not afraid of that. Our sponsors are far too intelligent not to know that trying to influence the content of our program would have a boomerang effect. On the contrary, I hope our sponsors continue to influence us, in the sense that they make it possible to implement projects that we could not realize otherwise for lack of money. Therefore, on behalf of the Festival, I would very much like to thank our sponsors, donors, supporters and friends as well as the public authorities subsidizing the Festival for their generous support.

President of the Salzburg Festival
