Broadcasts of Salzburg Festival 2022

Huge Media Echo for the Festival: 7 TV and Streaming Productions and 21 Radio Recordings

The 2022 Salzburg Festival was celebrated not only by the audience in Salzburg, but also by viewers everywhere in Europe and worldwide via all the ORF channels, via ARTE, NHK, 3sat, Mezzo and Servus TV, via the online platforms ARTE Concert, myfidelio.at and medici.TV as well as in the cinema.

In addition to the new opera productions of this year’s Festival summer, Il Trittico, Káťa Kabanová and Die Zauberflöte, four concerts were also recorded audiovisually for television and streaming: the concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic with Christian Thielemann and Elīna Garanča and with Andris Nelsons and Yefim Bronfman, the concert of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim with Lang Lang as soloist, and the concert of the Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Orchestra under Roberto González-Monjas with Juan Diego Flórez as soloist.

Thanks to UNITEL, the Festival’s exclusive audiovisual media partner, and its partners ORF, ZDF for ARTE, NHK, 3sat, Servus TV as well as myfidelio.at, medici.TV and Mezzo, numerous recordings took place.

In addition to cinema broadcasts to Korea, this year the Festival joined forces with UNITEL and the cinema distribution company Nordpolaris under the label Salzburg im Kino (Salzburg at the Cinema) to broadcast Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte live to 50 cinemas in Germany and Austria.

With steady continuity, the ORF radio station Ö1 has been broadcasting from Salzburg this summer as well. Apart from the four opera productions Bluebeard’s Castle / De Temporum fine Comoedia, Il Trittico, Aida and Káťa Kabanová, two operas in concert, Jakob Lenz and Lucia di Lammermoor, were broadcast alongside 15 concerts, three of the LIVE. Given these 21 productions, Ö1 can certainly be called THE Salzburg Festival broadcaster. Thanks to the partners of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), all these recordings were broadcast worldwide, from Europe to Great Britain, Latvia and Canada. Thus, Il Trittico and the Holiday Matinee under Riccardo Muti are being taken up by more than 20 radio stations, reaching ca. 10 million listeners each.
