The building at Anton Neumayr Platz No. 2 was formerly the Stadtkino, the city cinema. It was converted in 2001 to create a space for “happenings” and is known as the republic. “State of the arts – republic” stands for de-provincialisation and extra-territoriality: an artistic free space is the intention here where openness, sophisticated artistic demands and variety are the determining features – a place for non-conformity, without limits, open for art, culture and communication.
Centrally located in Salzburg's historic center, up to 700 guests can participate in events here, with a telescope stage making various constellations possible: cabaret, readings, theater and dance performances, parties and exhibitions etc. find their audiences here. A computer-controlled light and sound system, continuously variable risers and a stage that can be partially lowered provide the necessary audiovisual support.
