Salzburger Landestheater

The Landestheater was opened on October 1, 1893, with a performance of Mozart's opera Titus. The building was originally richly decorated with Rococo ornamentation. In 1938/39 the front part of the house was rebuilt; the driveway and the decoration of the facade were sacrificed, but the theatre gained a much-needed main foyer and a revolving stage. A second major renovation in 1977/78 provided further technical improvements and a modern air-conditioning system. The auditorium seats 697 and is used for opera as well as theatre performances.
