1932

30 July – 31 August

Even the Salzburg Festival began to feel the effects of the Great Depression. Tight budgets and emergency decrees almost forced the Festival to discontinue, but the provincial governor Franz Rehrl encouraged the directors to persevere. Missing from the programme was an actor whose impact on the Festival had been enormous: Alexander Moissi, a living legend as the Salzburg Jedermann since 1920. He was replaced in the production by Paul Hartmann.
