Through its sponsorship, Montblanc supports and facilitates new productions and invitations for existing works to visit Salzburg. Montblanc also donates the prize of EUR 10,000 for the best directing talent. This amount allows young artists to successfully continue their work. As a symbol of this honorary award, the winner of the YDP also receives a Mozart fountain pen, designed specially and exclusively by Montblanc for this project. Winners can keep the pen as a happy reminder of their success at the YDP. In addition to its official sponsorship role, Montblanc also provides spontaneous assistance with a wide range of project-related tasks, such as producing the YDP programme magazine “Close Up”.
Four international productions
Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Director of Acting at the Salzburg Festival, invited one female director from the United Kingdom and three male directors from Germany, Iraq and the Czech Republic in 2013. All performances are shown in their original language with English or German surtitles, and are thus well suited to an international festival audience.
“Thanks to the huge commitment of Montblanc, the YDP is once again able to showcase the work of young directors at the Salzburg Festival for the twelfth consecutive year. I would like to extend my sincere thanks for this support.
Suzanne Andrade from England, Bastian Kraft from Germany, Mokhallad Rasem from Iraq (also Belgium) and Jan Mikulášek from the Czech Republic are this year‘s competitors. Just like last year, the YDP‘s programme magazine “Close Up” will also present the young artists and their productions in a variety of ways in 2013.
The Salzburg Festival enjoys a long tradition and continues to make fresh commitments to the present. We hope that the YDP will also help us venture a glimpse into the future of the theatre. Our thanks go to Montblanc – a committed, reliable and generous partner in this project.”
The jury of the Montblanc Young Directors Project
Once again, this year‘s expert jury includes prominent figures such as Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler (President of the Salzburg Festival) and Thaddaeus Ropac (Ropac Gallery), who have been involved in the project since its inception. Joining us for the first time in 2013: actress and this year’s “Paramour” Brigitte Hobmeier, author Michael Köhlmeier and director Ulrich Khuon (Deutsches Theater, Berlin).
