“The two most important decisions have been made: the USA have a President again and Salzburg has a new ‘Jedermann’,” thus Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler opened the annual press conference on November 7 in Salzburg with a display of ironic wit. Doubtlessly, the new production of Jedermann
in 2013 will be the special focus of the media. In the opera, concert and drama genres, over 250 events will be presented at 14 performance venues.
The Salzburg Festival’s directorate introduced the program, fresh off the printing press, not only to its audience in Salzburg, but all over the world: Helga Rabl-Stadler, Alexander Pereira and Sven-Eric Bechtolf presented it in Basel, Beijing, Berlin, Geneva, Ingolstadt, London, Milano, Moscow, Munich, New York, Paris, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Torino, in Vienna and in Zurich.
Verdi and Wagner, both born in 1813, will be represented by new productions of their operas Don Carlo, Falstaff and Die Meistersänger von Nürnberg. And the project El Sistema from Venezuela will have all eyes and ears when over 1,400 children and young musicians travel to Salzburg to perform in various ensembles. Of course, the project’s most famous son will also make an appearance in Salzburg: Gustavo Dudamel.
