PROGRAM SUMMER 2010

PROGRAM WHITSUN 2010

Whitsun in Salzburg
with Riccardo Muti

EDITORIAL

COVER“Aren’t you afraid that the sponsors will try to influence your program?” is a common question in the arts sections of various newspapers, especially since we have been so successful in acquiring sponsors. And I can always answer both spontaneously and honestly: No, I am not afraid of that. Our sponsors are far too intelligent not to know that trying to influence the content of our program would have a boomerang effect. On the contrary, I hope our sponsors continue to influence us, in the sense that they make it possible to implement projects that we could not realize otherwise for lack of money. Therefore, on behalf of the Festival, I would very much like to thank our sponsors, donors, supporters and friends as well as the public authorities subsidizing the Festival for their generous support.

President of the Salzburg Festival

New Building for the Haus für Mozart
Renovation of the Felsenreitschule Auditorium

The history of the new building for the Haus für Mozart goes back to the 70s. The fact that the Haus für Mozart could be inaugurated during the Mozart year is due in great part to sponsors like you. The Salzburg Festival had to raise 40% of the construction costs from private sources.

We thank

The Republic of Austria
The State of Salzburg
and
The City of Salzburg.

Moreover, we thank the major donors
Donald Kahn, whose generosity alone made the rebuilding of the Festspielhaus possible at all.
Gerhard Andlinger, who financed the construction of the SalzburgKulisse and thereby created the most beautiful view of the old center of Salzburg.
The Austria Foundation, whose major gift was a decisive step in building the Haus für Mozart.
Herbert Batliner, the great international patron of the arts, whose donation returned the Faistauerfoyer to its former glory as a jewel of the Festival district.
Our Main Sponsors Nestlé, Siemens, and Audi, who supported both our artistic programming and our rebuilding in 2006.
The Swarovski company, whose artistic and financial support gave the entrance foyer in the new Haus für Mozart a spectacular appearance.
The Oberbank, which proved itself once again as a generous supporter of the Salzburg Festival through its financial help.
Erich Schumann, the great newspaper publisher, whose love for Salzburg motivated him to give a most generous donation for the Festival.
The Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, which expressed its appreciation of the high indirect profitability of the Salzburg Festival in a donation.
Andreas Kaufmann, Salzburger by choice and promoter of young musical talent, whose Socrates Foundation contributed to the success of the Festspielhaus rebuilding.
