The winner of the 2012 “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award”, held this year for the third time, is Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. 26-year-old Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla from Lithuania convinced the international jury chaired by Ingo Metzmacher at the Award Concert Weekend, when she performed at the Felsenreitschule with the Camerata Salzburg. “It was a very close call. In the end, greater determination and clarity was the crucial factor,” said Metzmacher.

He will perform at the Felsenreitschule on April 29, 2012 at 11:00 am together with the Munich Radio Orchestra and pianist Alexej Gorlatch. On April 28 and 29, the Award Concert Weekend takes place for the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award at the Felsenreitschule. We would like to introduce the three finalists to you and have asked them a few questions about themselves, their love for music and the finale which they are about to compete in. Out of 91 applicants, including 19 women, the jury of the “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award” chaired by Ingo Metzmacher has selected three conductors, two men and one woman: the 20-year-old Englishman Jamie Phillips, the 33-year-old Argentinean Christian Baldini and the 26-year-old Lithuanian Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. The three finalists will present themselves to the public on April 28 and 29 during the Award Concert Weekend.
