“Cinderella is not just a fairy-tale figure for me, but a living human being who feels and experiences life, and whose fate excites us,” Prokofiev remarked on his ballet Cinderella (1941/44), with which he was able to repeat the overwhelming success of his Romeo and Juliet: a splendid score, which fascinates even without the dance element.
